The
dedicated staff at the Jack Frost shop combines years of experience with
true love of the sport to give you the
ultimate shopping experience. Whether it be picking out that once in a
lifetime ski parka that you just have to have or simply replacing a pair
of goggles that got lost in the lodge, the pros at Jack Frost will help
you make the right decision.
Masters
of the “soft sell”, Susan Cummings and Gary
Perkins
will coax you through your shopping spree. Beware, neither Susan nor
Perk will let you out without seeing that perfect match in a hat
or sweater. Working with Susan, you soon recognize her desire to see you
in that something special. Utilizing her skills as a registered nurse
(from a previous life), longtime ski patroller, long distance runner,
accomplished tennis player, pilot, lifetime skier, mother and
grandmother (trust us, she’s not your typical grandma!) Susan’s
underlying goal is always to make you warm and comfortable on your
outdoor adventure. Oh yeah, Susan does get pushy on one thing—you don’t
leave the shop without a pair of Smartwool socks!
Avid
skier and biker, ex-freestyle coach and ski instructor, Perk comes to
work everyday with more technical knowledge of the sport of skiing than
anyone. Sounds like a hardgoods guy. Yeah, he’ll help pick out skis and
boots, but not until he’s outfitted you from head to toe.
Perk knows quality, his mother worked as a seamstress and instilled the
knowledge of what makes a good garment. Probably the most unique thing
about Perk is his ability to work with both men and women. Women love
him for his sense of style and truthfulness—men for his
understanding of their needs and budget constraints.
The boot room at the Frost Shop is
what sets them apart from the other ski shops. Staffed by two seasoned
veterans, Jim Cummings and Bill Tinkham, any boot customer immediately
recognizes the difference between a boot salesman and a boot fitter.
Graduate of MasterFit University and listed as Americas Best
Bootfitters, Jim and Tink pride themselves in matching the skier with
the right boot and the right fit. Beginner and racer are all treated
to the same expert attention.
When
another shop gives up on you and your feet—they send you to see Jim. He
wrote chapter one on patience, a customer never feels like his time is
up and always knows that he is welcome back as many times as necessary
to get the right fit. Jim is a student of his work. If you want to know
why, ask Jim. Long time ski patroller, ski fanatic and football coach,
(you still see him on the sidelines coaching the Fryeburg Raiders every
fall.) Jim brings his passion for skiing to the boot room everyday.
Learning to ski later in life gives Jim a certain appreciation to the
importance of how your equipment and correct fit can influence how fast
your skiing improves.
Part two of the bootroom equation is
Bill "Tink" Tinkham. Tink decided 27 years ago that a ski instructors pay did
not put food on the table, so he picked up a little time at the local
ski shop. Today, alongside his partner and brother in law Jim (yes, it
is a family affair!), Tink’s goal with any customer is for them to see
quantum leap in their comfort and ski performance. His background in ski
teaching taught him that even the best instructor and the best equipment
don’t always produce the best results. Often, a bootfitter is the
missing link, helping to identify and produce the perfect balance
between skier and equipment.
Always on the search for new and
innovative ways to help you become a better skier, Tink made the valleys
first footbed over 25 years ago (It can be seen on display at the shop).
Whether it be chasing his own 2 hot
shot racers around or working with one of the area coaches, Tink’s past
affiliation with academy, university and US ski team coaches and
athletes makes him a trusted advisor when it comes to helping your son
or daughter become a better racer.
For who knows how
many years Andy Kramp has been the benchmark for high performance tuning here
in the valley. Those of you who have been here for a while
remember Andy as a young man downstairs in the original Jack Frost Shop.
He opened his own tuning shop and eventually bought Andy's Ski Tuning on
the way to Attitash. After selling that business he dropped out of
the ski industry for a while. A casual conversation about a year
ago led to a comment along the lines of; " I'd consider doing a little
tuning again." Well one thing led to another and now we've got him
chained to the tuning bench. Seriously,
no one does it better. Probably the most impressive thing that
will stick to you about Andy is his desire to give you the finished
product you want. Interestingly enough, we now have 2 jars in the
basement - a tip jar and a cookie jar. Andy's die hard customers
have realized that a fresh baked cookie is what really brings a smile to
his face!
